Our bodies get the energy they need from food through metabolism. It is the process in which your body breaks down the nutrients in food to produce energy. It is a constant process that begins when we're conceived and ends when we die.
The metabolic rate (per minute or per hour) is the rate at which your body can breakdown food to energy which can be used to perform day to day activities like digestion, cell repair, breathing etc.
It is calculated based on Basal metabolic rate (BMR), the fat percentage, the body mass index, waist to hip ratio, and height weight.
How does it affect Me?
It influences how easily your body can gain or lose weight. Some people can consume a lot of calories and yet stay slim while others put on weight even looking at their friends eating. This is because some have a faster metabolism rate while others have a slower one. Thus if someone is born with a tendency to gain weight, he/she has to eat right and be active to stay in shape. Every time this rule is broken, the weight will come bouncing back!
